Fractal, an ad-hoc committee of the Friends of Oliewenhuis, was established at the beginning of 1999.
The aims of Fractal are:

On Saturday, 12 February 2011 Fractal hosted a Valentine’s Day Love AssemblyMovie Evening in the beautiful front gardens of Oliewenhuis Art Museum, where the general public enjoyed the classic film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s under the stars in a romantic ‘drive-in’ atmosphere.

Construct Your Skin is an event hosted by the Fractal committee, an ad-hoc committee of the Friends of Oliewenhuis Art Museum. The competition, previously known as Shed Your Skin was successfully hosted for the first time in 1999 and became an annual event until 2007. In 2011, Fractal decided to revive and host the event again.
Construct your Skinis a fashion show with a difference. Art departments of tertiary institutions, as well as high schools, fashion schools, and the general public were challenged to construct a functional, wearable sculpture which expresses one or more of the following themes: construction/reconstruction and/or deconstruction.
These themes were inspired by Wiehahn Formwork and Scaffold, which was the major sponsor of the event.
11 November 2010 - 5 December 2010

This was the third year that the Fractal Committee provided young, upcoming visual artists the opportunity to exhibit at Oliewenhuis Art Museum. A panel consisting of members of the Oliewenhuis Advisory Committee, the Fractal Committee and other visual art practitioners selected to take part in the Young Artist Exhibition.
The aim of the project is to give young artists the opportunity of showcasing their artwork professionally in a well-established environment and to offer them the prospect of expanding their knowledge and experience in curating an exhibition.
The exhibition was opened by Prof Jansen, Rector of the University of the Free State on 11 November 2010 at 19:00 and there were live entertainment and music performances. The artists conducted a walkabout of the exhibition on Friday, 12 November 2010.
