The National Museum, Bloemfontein invites applications for the following position:

FOSSIL PREPARATOR/CASTER: KAROO PALAEONTOLOGY

(1 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT FUNDED BY THE NATIONAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION)

Requirements:

  • At least Grade 12.
  • Ability to work carefully with fragile material, with a strong bias towards working with detail for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to spend extended periods of time doing fieldwork.
  • Good interpersonal skills, organised, self-motivated and ability to work well within a team.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Fossil preparation and restoration.
  • Boxing and storing of fossils.
  • Casting fossil bones.
  • Fieldwork: fossil search and excavation.

All candidates invited for an interview are expected to undertake a simple manual dexterity test to assess their suitability for the position.
